Wet Wednesday

Hello there! Well, we're having a very rainy, gloomy couple of days here; although it has warmed up a bit. I haven't had too much going on this week, but Saturday Bob and I are going to an antique Christmas show, about a half hour from us. We haven't been to this one before. I hope it's decent! We'll also be going over his parent's house at night, for his mom's birthday.
It's December tomorrow! That means it's 3.5 weeks until Christmas. I have more Christmas shopping to do, and baking, and all my wrapping. My mom is in Austria right now, and was in Germany before that, and I can't wait to see what she found for me there! She's been emailing me daily, and she told me she found some things today. Germany and Austria have such amazing craftmanship there.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my Trashy Diva Anette French Quarter dress that I got from Poshmark about a year ago. The dress was a couple sizes big for me, but I had my mom take in the waist, and now, with her taking it in, and with me using a belt, it's a much better fit. It's so lovely to own a New Orleans print, since I love New Orleans so, and the French Quarter is my favorite area of NOLA. My new orangeish/redish cardi matches the dress so well; I got it from Modcloth during the pre Black Friday sale. I didn't know if I'd ever be able to find this dress, since it hasn't been made in years, and it almost never gets listed for sale anywhere, because for a lot of ladies, it's a favorite print.

Oranges Nicole

Hello there! Yesterday Bob and I went antiquing in two different towns that are close to each other. I got a few Christmas antiques. I got a small blow mold Santa, a large blow mold Santa, a tablecloth, and a very small snowman candy container. I think I got good prices on all of them too. I got the vendors to go down in price on three of them, but didn't get to ask the other vendor to go down, as I was caught off guard by her attitude. She was pretty short with me. Luckily, that's been an anomoly for me so far, in the antiquing world. My favorite find was the large Santa blow mold, which I got from that rude vendor. I got it for $20!
I posted pictures below of my finds.
At night Bob and I went out to a local bar for a friend's birthday. It wasn't busy there, which is just the way I like it. I hate when you can't hear what anyone's saying, plus you have to wait forever to get a drink.
In the pictures below I'm wearing one of the other Bernie dresses I snagged during her (still going on) 35% off sitewide sale. I posted a blog yesterday of one of the other dresses I got; the lipstick Lauren. This one is the Nicole style. I had had it in the Paris version, but ended up selling it, once I saw she released the print in the Nicole. The Paris version is quite low cut, and I'm trying to replace my low cut Bernies with the shirt dress style dresses she's now making. I love shirt dresses more than any other style, plus it's easier to wear them to work, family functions, etc., since they have more coverage. I also find them quite flattering.
This oranges print is so gorgeous! I have another oranges print dress, a Pinup Girl Clothing dress with a white background. That one I don't wear in the late fall-early spring. So, it's nice to have this Bernie oranges print dress that I can wear easily in the cooler weather.

Lipstick Lauren

Hello there! Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I had a good time; I went to my parents' house, and then met my husband over at his aunt and uncle's house, and when we got back to our place I decorated our tree. I finished decorating the whole apartment yesterday.
It looks so darn cute and festive in here now! I can't wait until I have a house, and can put all of my decorations out on display all over the house, and by then, I'll have even more decorations. Right now it's hard to fit everything, but I do have just about every decoration out. I'll be doing more antiquing before we get a house though, so I'll definitely have more items by then, ha. I do want to have at least one big hutch to display some antique Christmas items year round, like my mom does.
My mom is in Germany now, and is going to be there & in Austria for 10 days! She flew there Thanksgiving evening. I'm so excited to see all the things she buys there. She said she'll send me some pictures while she's there, too.
So far I've bought Besame makeup, some cropped cardigans and a brooch from Doll Me Up Darling (by the way they're having a great sale of up to 60% off!), and some earrings and a necklace from Luxulite. I'm going to do some more shopping before the sales are over (including buying a present for my sister), but I'm still making up my mind on everything.
In the pictures below I'm wearing one of the Bernie Dexter dresses I snagged during her early Black Friday sale; everything was/still is 35% off! I had originally bought this dress in a different Bernie style months ago, but the bust was way too tight on me, and I ended up selling it. I love this style so much more, and was excited to get it on super sale. I'm not normally into gold, but I don't mind it in this dress. I have this dress style in another print; it's called the Lauren style. I can wear the smaller of my two Bernie sizes in this style. I have the leaves print Lauren in a size up, but it's pretty big on me, so I sized down one when I ordered this one, and it was the right thing. The Lauren comes with a tie fabric belt attached to the dress, but I don't like the belts, so I removed them with a seam ripper; it's fast and easy. I don't find those belts to be flattering at all.

Meow!

Hello there! Well, I'm all done with work for the week, which feels great. We had a half day today, which was my first time experiencing a half day since I started there five (!!) months ago. Well, I should say experiencing a half day where I didn't need to take off for it, ha (I've left early before but had to use my PTO time).
Tomorrow morning I'll be leaving to head up to my parents' house for an early Thanksgiving dinner, and from there I'll be going to my husband's aunt and uncle's house for dessert.
I'll be putting up the tree tomorrow night, too! I did a lot of decorating last weekend, but have some more to do, plus decorating the tree; the best part of all!
I did some pre-black Friday shopping this week; I snagged three Bernie Dexter dresses at 35% off! I'm watcing some other sites to see what sales they come out with too, and I know I'll be ordering at least one pair of BAIT shoes; that site will be 30% off. I know I'm getting at least one Christmas gift for someone from Modcloth, also. Can't resist such great deals; it's the best sales of the year!
In the pictures below I'm wearing my new Retrospec'd kitty dress. Is there such a thing as too many cat prints?? I think not. It's yet another shirt dress in my wardrobe; shirt dresses are just my all time favorite style of dress. There's a tiny bit of gaping at the chest, but that's the norm for me. The waist is quite big, but the belt pretty much hides that. This dress's colors are definitely more subdued than most items I have, but there are little pops of red, and I brighten it up a bit with the white cardi, red shoes and bracelets.

Antiquing Success

Hello there! Well, yesterday I really lucked out antiquing! I went antiquing by myself, and I actually do enjoy shopping by myself, so I can really concentrate on what I'm looking at and making up my mind. The shops are on each side of Main Street in the town, so I parked at one, and asked them if there was a particular parking lot somewhere that I could park, and jus walk around town. The woman was nice enough to let me park in the back of her shop and leave my car there. I went in a few shops, until I got to the one I went there specifically for. The booth I was looking for was all the way in the back of the store, and it was pretty small, BUT, had a lot I wanted!
I posted pictures below of my haul, and everything in the pictures, except for the two Pyrex mixing bowls and the Christmas tree topper. Most of the items in this shop were 20% off, which was great. I asked the woman who rang me up about it, and she said that it's a year round thing; having 20% off most items. I was most excited to get that light up ceramic Christmas tree! I had been wanting one for a longgg time, but never went for it. This is definitely my favorite one I've ever seen. I like the white ones more; the colors really pop on them! Those are the first vintage ornaments I've bought, and are my favorite kind; they're called indented ornaments. The gum drop garlands will pair so perfectly with my sweets themed Christmas ornaments!
When I got home from shopping, my reindeer The Oblong Box Shop skirt was waiting for me! I had been dying for this skirt, a soon as the shop released a preview of it a few weeks ago. I can not wait to wear it! I think I'll start wearing it right after Thanksgiving. The colors in are amazing, and the trees look like bottle brush trees, ad I am a huge fan of bottle brush trees! TOBS is coming out with another Christmas skirt, launching December 1, which I also really want, plus it's especially perfect for me now, because on the bottom of the skirt are light up ceramic trees, ha. I posted a pic below of the skirt.

Sandi Poppies

Hello there! Well, the weekend is here once again, and I'm looking forward to a lot of relaxing, baking some Christmas cookies, putting out some Christmas decorations, and going to a few shops, including a nearby antique mall that I didn't even know was in existence until last night, when a girl that I follow on Instagram posted a picture of her booth there! It's only twenty miutes away, and there's other antiqe shops there too, besides that antique mall.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my new Retrospec'd Sandi poppies dress. I had first seen this dress about a year ago, and didn't go for it for awhile, and when I decided to, it was sold out in my size. It was recently restocked, and I received this dress and a couple of other Retrospec'd items from a woman who runs a shop in Florida; I found her in one of the Facebook groups I'm in. This print is so darn gorgeous! I love a great floral print, and I love the combination of pink and green on this white background. My bangle set is also new, and I got it from Pinup Girl Clothing. It's made by Splendette, and is sold exclusively at PUG. The shade of pink that these bangles are is AMAZING; such a vivid, bright pink. There's also a purple set that I'm considering getting, but am trying to wait until the Black Friday sales.

Leaf It To Me

Hello there! Tonight I went to a board meeting at work, which was quite short this time, only half an hour. I got home around 6:30 p.m. (I normally get home from work around 4:00); the meeting didn't start until 6:00, and I stayed in the area, because I don't like driving home in between; it's a waste of gas, and not worth it to be home for such a small amount of time.
I'm really looking forward to this weekend, and not having to do too much during it. I plan on getting chores done, working out, and also lots of relaxing time. I got "Game of Thrones" season 5 from the library tonight, and I can't wait to start watching it with my husband.
I have a 2.5 day work week next week, and I *may* be the tiniest bit of excited for that, ha! It's so nice to finally have a job where I get a decent amount of paid time off!
I posted about Bernie Dexter Lauren leaf print dress back in the beginning of September (http://colourmebristol.blogspot.com/2016/09/fall-for-you.html), where I paired it with different shoes. This isn't a "typical" color palette for me, but I do love aqua blue and coral, and think all the colors in the print look great together. This is obiously a really lovely dress to wear in the fall, so I have another just over a month to wear it during fall. Speaking of seasonal dressing, I CAN'T wait to break out my Christmas clothing!! I received one new Bernie Dexter Christmasy dress recently, and have an Oblong Box Shop skirt on the way.
I also can't wait to transform my apartment into a Christmas Candyland! I will be doing that Thanksgiving night and Black Friday. It makes me so happy to see my surroundings all covered in dessert decorations!

A Whirlwind

Hello there! I got back last night from a very quick trip to California with my mom to visit family (we got in late Wednesday night, and leave super early yesterday). The weather was really warm during the day, even warmer than predicted, and then got cool at night. I got some super cute items out there! I didn't get any clothes or shoes, but I did pick up one Bakelite bracelet. It was my first time purchasing Bakelite in person. I found it an antique mall, and at that mall I also bought a Santa mug (which I'll use as a decoration, and won't actually use it as a mug, ha), a Thanksgiving postcard (from 1908!), and a colorful ornament there. I got everything except the postcard from the same vendor, who happened to me working there at the time, and she was really nice. I got to talk with her a bit about Bakelite and the ornament, and she gave me $20 off the bracelet, which was great. She had a lot of neat ornaments, and I could've gotten more, but restrained myself. I did pick up a few ornaments from a couple of shops in the town.
We went to an art market where I got a really pretty small floral print and two brooches that look antique (but are new). I got a few other small things at a couple of shops, like a Santa Claus soap dish, dish towel and a potholder.
I got A LOT of compliments from strangers on my dresses and shoes during the trip. Even on the flight home yesterday, one of the flight attendants REALLY loved my dress (Bernie Dexter kitchen print Kelly).
Today I just stayed home, I had to after a whirlwind trip! I did some cleaning and laundry, and a lot of relaxing. I'm very much looking forward to my four day weekend the week of Thanksgiving! It'll be nice to stay home and have a long, relaxing weekend. On Thanksgiving itself I'll be going to my parent's house for an early dinner (my sister will be home), and then going to my husband's aunt and uncle's for dessert.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my Modcloth fruity dress that I get a lot of wear out of, and have posted about before. I love pairing it with these bright bangles!

Antiquing & Collecting

Hello there! Yesterday was a fun day. I went to a couple of towns in Pennsylvania to go to an antique show, out to eat, and to a couple of shops. I hadn't been to this particular antique show since I was young, and my parents would drag my sister and me there against our will, ha. The theme of the show was toys, but they did have some antique Christmas, Halloween and Easter items as well. Holiday decorations as well as kitchen/barware items from the 50's are my favorite things to collect. My mom has a huge antique tin toy collection, as well as a huge antique holiday collection. I bought my first antique toy yesterday, at the show.
I bought a tin Easter basket, and it was in great condition, and a great price! I posted a picture below. I really love the colors in it, too. My parents and aunt and uncle said it was a good price, too, and they are experts in this arena, ha.
I didn't ask the seller if they'd take a lower price, because it seemed like a great price, but I will do it in the future, because after I told my parents about it, they said that you should ALWAYS ask if they'll take less, no matter the item. It feels strange to me to "haggle", but I'll have to get used to that! I did do that when I bought my antique bar cart at an antique mall, and it worked.
After the toy show, Bob and I went out to lunch nearby, and then went to a mall to checked out the Christmas ornaments at Boscov's (a department store), and I picked up a cupcake ornament there. We then went to a nearby town where I picked up a macaron ornament at a shop. We'll be going to a strictly Christmas antique show the first Saturday in December, about forty minutes from us. I'm excited to go to a strictly Christmas show, and think I'll find a lot there. I haven't been to this show before.
I can't wait to have a house and get to display my growing collections year round! That's the most exciting part for me of having a house, ha! I want to display them in hutches, tables, on shelves and a mantel.
My outfit was a huge hit at the antique show! Almost everyone there was quite a big older than us, I'd say mainly in their 40's to 70's. A few of the vendors complimented me, and asked me about my outfit, and thought my dress was actual vintage, and not repro. It's always cool to introduce people to the world of vintage repro, since it seems like hardly anyone in the area I live in dresses that way.

You're The Best Friend That I've Ever Had, Been With You Such A Long Time

Hello there! Well, today is a special day. My husband asked me to be his girlfriend eight years ago today! Eight years is quite awhile, and it feels both like it flew by, and also feels like I've always been with him. We just fit together so well, that I can't imagine life without him. Isn't that what makes love so scary AND so special? You don't want to ever live your life without them, but there's a chance it'll happen, you know, because someone has to pass away first. That's pretty morid though ha, so that's enough about that subject. But, I will say that my life is infinitely better for having him in it, and that he treats me so well, and makes me so happy, and I'm a very lucky girl, and never take it for granted.
I don't have much going on until Saturday, when Bob and I are going to PA for the day to go to an antique toy show (my mom, dad, aunt & uncle will also be at the show), and are going to a couple of shops, and out to eat. Last night I went to a board meeting at the school I work at, and then went to dinner with my boss and co-worker.
Can you believe it's flipping November?! I'm really excited for lots of time off from work, and for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but not the colder weather! It was 7o today though, and that was sooo nice. I have off from work next Thursday and Friday, and the day before Thanksgiving is a half day, and then I'm off Thanksgiving and the day after.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my Bernie Dexter gingham Kelly dress that I got in the summer from Pinup Girl Clothing. I don't wear too much green, but I do love gingham.
I really love my watermelon bangle & brooch, and wear them very often.
