Vintage Dream Of A Dress

Hello there! I'm loving this long weekend; I actually have a four day weekend, which is even better! So far it's been a good one. Friday I cleaned and did laundry, took a walk, and just stayed in at night and watched a movie. Saturday I went to Adamstown by myself (my mom was going to come, but ended up going out to Ohio with my dad instead), and last night Bob and I went out to dinner, and then stopped at a bar for a drink. Tomorrow we're going to his family's bbq.
I usually go to Adamstown twice a year, and I don't always find much, but it's still fun to go and look. It's about an hour & 45 minutes from me, but it's worth it. It's know as the antique  capital of the U.S., because of how many antique malls and shops there are there. My parents have been going there for about thirty years now. I didn't spend too much money yesterday, but still got a few items I really like, which is the perfect combination! I got a Lustroware cookie cansister (plastic) that  had wanted for awhile, and will look great in our red and turquoise kitchen in our house, an ice cream carton with Bing Crosby on it, a drinking glass with atomic stars on it, and some vintage postcards.
By the way, we closed on our construction loan for our house on Friday, FINALLY!!!! It's taken such an unbelievably long time, and the process has been fraught with frustration for us, but especially for Bob, who has been the one dealing with the bank and contractors. He works in the construction industry, which is the main reason why he is dealing with the contractors himself.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my new to me vintage dress that I got from Etsy. I haven't been buying many dresses lately, but this one really spoke to me. It has a zip front!!! I LOVE zip fronts; they're so much easier than a back or side zip, and buttons usually mean gaping, which I hate. Front zips on vintage dresses seem to be rare, too. When I saw the measurement sfor the dress, I crossed my fingers it'd fit me, since my measurements are an inch or two bigger than the dress, but it fits like a glove. I just adore that beautiful floral print, and I really love pink and turquoise together.

Kitschmas Countdown

Hello there! Well, the countdown to Christmas is REALLY on now, and my brain is going Kitschmas crazy. It's been so fun going to antique shows and shops with my mom lately. The antique show we went to today was primarily vintage Christmas. I snagged a bottle brush tree from a dealer that my mom and I both love, and my mom has bought a lot from her over the years. I picked out an ornament and an adorable vintage card with a snowman on it (that I'll display) for my mom to give me at Christmas.
The antique mall I went to after the show had a decent amount of Christmas out, much more than they do the rest of the year. I got a super cute Christmas tin and a very small blow mold snowman. I also stopped at a small antique shop I had never been to, but I didn't get anything there.
Bob and I went to my aunt and uncle's for Thanksgiving, and my parents and all of my grandparents came. The food was great; my mom brought her sweet potatoes and stuffing; my favorite sides. Bob worked on Friday, and my mom and I did our version of Black Friday: antique shopping. We went a couple of hours away to antique in Pennsylvania, and had a fun day. We got stuck in Black Friday shopper traffic on our way home, which I don't understand why there was no traffic in the morning...don't most people go out first thing?! But, what made getting stuck worse was we were running on empty for gas, and drove half an hour with the gas light on...but, we made it to a station, thankfully.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my new to me Pinup Girl Jenny ornament dress. It came up last year, but I missed out on it when it was available, and I recently snagged it secondhand, at a great price. I knew it'd probably be a tight fit on my chest, but luckily it does fit. I just adore the Shiny Brite ornmanet print on it! I also have a skirt from PUG with a Shiny Brite print on it, but the print is a lot bigger in scale. I'll be wearing the heck out of both of them this season! I wore the dress while antiquing with my mom today and yesterday, ha.

Love this tin I bought!

I snagged this tree today at the show

Pink Plaid

Hello there! Today is a snow day for me; I work at a school, and the school closed due to the snow. Trust me, I never take this perk for granted. I worked at plenty of places where they wanted me to risk my life to come in during ice and snow storms and I was forced to drive in, white knuckling it the whole time. Bob has a long day ahead of him with salting and plowing. When I haev a snow day it's a good day for me, but it's the opposite for him, unfortunately.
Since I'll be stuck inside all day and night, I'll be doing a lot of reading and old movie watching, as well as working out. We watched "Gone With the Wind" on Saturday night; it's four hours long! I really liked it, and enjoyed the sassy banter between Scarlett and Rhett.
It didn't end exactly how I wanted it to, but it kind of did leave it open for a reconciliation betwee the two.
I don't have a lot going on this week, but Saturday Bob and I are going out to an early dinner to an Irish pub we've never been to before, and then going to a rockabilly show. I've never been to any local rockabilly events before, so this will be a first. There'll also be vendors, dancing, and hair and makeup workshops there, so it's not just music. I'm intrigued!
Also, on Friday I'm attending an insurance meeting for work, and my mom and cousin will also be attending (they both work in schools, too). I'll be going to work and leaving around ten a.m. to head over to meet my mom to carpool to the meeting. So, only one more full day at work this week to go (tomorrow).
In the pictures below I'm wearing a vintage dress that I got back in an antique shop in September for $27. I love a good plaid, and this combo of light pink and royal blue isn't such a common color combo. The dress is a great fit, too. I normally don't have much luck with finding vintage clothing in person, but once in awhile I get lucky. I like the pockets on this dress too; they're a bit unusual. The skirt isn't as full as I like my skirts to be, but I can deal with that once in awhile.

Grand Canal

Hello there! Well, the antique show my mom and I went to on Saturday was a success; I got a small bottle brush tree there and a plastic snowman that I had never seen anywhere before, and really love! My mom paid for part of the snowman, as a Christmas present for me. After we left the show we went to a couple of nearby stores that I had never been to before. They were cute shops, but I didn't get anything at either place.
This morning I went to a few stores, and then met my friend at Panera for lunch. I got some Christmas gifts when I was shopping, for my grandmothers and mom. Now I'm really almost all done Christmas shopping. Christmas is only three weeks from tomorrow! I can't wait to have off for almost a full week and a half. I am going to go into work one day, probably the Wednesday after Christmas.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my new Retrospec'd Connie dress in the Grand Canal print, that I purchased during their Black Friday sale. This shade of blue is gorgeous, and a bit unsual, and I LOVE the vintage repro print! As I've said before many times, shirt dresses are simply the BEST. I get tons of wear out of them, and I wear them to work constantly.
Also in a picture below is my new mint Pinup Girl wicker purse, that I ordered during a Black Friday week sale. I also recently snagged a PUG lime wicker purse, but in a different shape, as well as a lavender one.

How pretty is this color combo??!

Christmas Cocktails

Hello there! I had a great four day weekend, and hope you all did, too. It was the perfect mixture of doing fun things, seeing family, and getting to do plenty of relaxing at home, too. It certainly went by very fast, and now Christmas is four weeks from today!
I went to an antique show on Saturday with my mom. She asked me the night before, and I wasn't sure at first, since I've been doing a lot of antiquing lately and obviously spending money doing that, and the Oldwick show is this coming Saturday, too. But, I ended up going, and I'm glad I did! I had never been to this show before, and my mom hadn't been in many years. It was about forty minutes from where I live, and I met my mom halfway, and then we carpooled from there.
It was a decent size show, with a few good antique holiday vendors. I saw some vendors I have seen at other shows, and also some I've never seen before. I bought three things myself: a $10 fruit print tablecloth in great condition, a snowman blowmold for $15, and a plastic Santa on a reindeer, in the original box, and it still lights up! I really wanted this amazing, gorgeous, huge pastel tree topper, but didn't want to spend the money, and I also had seen two multi colored ornaments I really liked it. I showed them to my mom, and luckily she bought them for me for Christmas! I'm so glad she did, because if we left without that tree topper, I really would've been kicking myself.
In the pictures below I'm wearing the outfit I wore on Saturday. I love breaking out my Christmas outfits! I wait all year to do this, ha. I really love this Heart of Haute cheery cocktail skirt that I got a year ago. Isn't this Erstwilder Christmas lights print too cute?!
I obviously love how bright it is! I got TONS of compliments on my outfit at the show, which is nice, but I'm trying concentrate on all the goodies I'm looking at, ha! I don't mind people telling me they love my outfit and what not, but I don't want to have to chat too long, and have them ask too many questions about my style!

Orlando

Hello there! I had a good, quiet Thanksgiving at Bob's aunt & uncle's house, with yummy food. It was the first Thanksgiving I didn't spend with my family, but I did see some of them on Wednesday night. Today I went to antiquing with my mom, about forty minutes from where I live. I got one plastic Santa for $13, but that was it. I was glad I didn't find anything else that I had to have, because a week from tomorrow I'm going to the Oldwick antique show, which I found a lot at last year, and have a feeling I'll see a lot that I want this year, too.
I don't have a lot going on this weekend, which I'm glad about. I'm running a couple of errands tomorrow, and I got my cleaning and laundry done today. I also made my first batch of Christmas cookies today, and decorated the tree. I've been watching Christmas movies lately, and I'll be watching "Love Actually" either tonight or tomorrow, one of my favorites.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my new Trashy Diva Orlando dress that I just got through the TD swap & sell Facebook group I'm in. It's definitely on the fancy side, so it's not a dress I'll be wearing to work or for errands! But, I liked that it's has a high cut neck, because most of my fancier dresses are low cut, so it's nice to have this option, too. It would be gorgeous for Christmas, and I probably will wear it either Christmas Eve or on Christmas.
I'm wearing a petticoat in these pictures. I got my first one last weekend while antiquing, and I love how it looks with some of my dresses, including this one. You can't beat a beautiful red dress, in my opinion! The zipper is quite tricky on this dress; it gets stuck on the top seam in the back of the dress, so much so that Bob can't even get it go up, so I have to flip the dress around to the front and zip it that way, and then flip it back, and very gingerly try and get my arms through the arm holes. It's not because the dress is too tight on me either; Trashy Diva is known for having this problem with many of its dresses, which is super annoying.

Retro Market

Hello there! Bob and I had a good day out in Pennsylvania yesterday, in spite of the rain and traffic we encountered. It's just over a two hour drive to Lancaster for us, and we got there a little after 10 a.m. We went to the Retro Market antique show, and it was the very first one they'd had. The same people who put on Retro Fest in July (which we went to this past July), also put on the Retro Market. I hope they'll continue to put on both shows!
I had a lot of success yesterday. My best finds were two adorable vintage dresses for a total of $40! Vintage clothes shopping is not an easy feat, especially if you're not tiny, as the medium to larger sizes are harder to find. The red dress I got fits me pretty well, just a little big in the waist, and the gingham dress I got is very big in the waist, so I'm going to see if my mom can take it in for me, and for now, I'll just be belting it. I got my first vintage purse at the show, and it's a cheery shade of yellow. I got that for $15, and a blue flower enamel brooch for $8.
I also got a small fruit lithograph print that I'll hang on the wall. As for my Christmas-y finds at the show: I got a plastic Santa Claus cookie jar, a new book on vintage Christmas with the CUTEST graphics, a dish towel with a super cute, bright, bell print, and a smallChristmas gift for my mom.
The show was on the small side, but that's okay, because I got enough great finds! I also saw Joann there, a woman I met at the July show, after following each other on Instagram.
My dad happened to ask us Friday night when we saw him, if we'd be stopping in Adamstown on the way there or back. I totally forgot it's right on the route to Lancaster!
So, Bob wasn't excited ha, but he was very sweet and let me go to two antique malls in Adamstown on the way back. It was a long day for him, with all the shopping, driving in the annoying rain, and the traffic.
I found a few small items in Adamstown: a Christmas apron that I LOVE, a board game with adorable graphics, a really cute Scotch tape container, and my very first petticoat! Can you believe I never had a petticoat before?! I got it for $13, too, ha. I got really good deals yesterday! I definitely won't be wearing the petticoat to work, but I will start wearing it on weekends.
I'm really glad we went, and I'm looking forward to going to Retro Fest again, this July!
There's so much amazing antiquing out in that area of Pennsylvania,a nd I love going.
My mom and I are probably going to Adamstown over Christmas break. It's better when my mom brings me, instead of Bob, because she has more fun, ha.
Oh, and I got TONS of compliments on my outfit yesterday! First when I got to the show, I was walking around with my coat on (which also could be worn as a dress), and people thought I was wearing it as a dress, and were complimenting my outfit. I got hot later on, took of the coat, and then was getting compliments on my reindeer skirt outfit, and a couple people asked if I had changed my outfit, ha! Nope, just took off my coat.

Look at this whopper of a tree!!
