Poppies

Hello there! I don't have much going on today; it'll just a quiet day in at home for Bob and me. He is making my favorite food for dinner though; tomato tart. I've been looking forward to that for a few days, ha. It's very similar to plain pizza, but even more savory. Tomatoes and cheese....the perfect pairing in my opinion!
We've been watching "Lilyhammer" on Netflix, and are on season two now. It's an interesting show; it's decent, but not excellent, mainly because the main character is pretty corny, and such a stereotypical Italian mobster character. I like it mainly because it takes place in Norway, with actual Norwegian actors starring in it (other than the Italian mobster character, played by Steve VanSandt), and I enjoy seeing Norway onscreen and seeing the culture depicted.
It's funny we're watching this now, because a couple of weeks ago I finished reading a book about Scandanvia, called "The Almost Nearly Perfect People: Behind the Myth of the Scandanavian Utopia". FYI: I am part Scandanvian: I'm part Norwegian and Danish.
My mom has always been very interested in our Norwegian side. I look just like my grandmother who is 50% Norwegian, and she and I look like her father, who was 100% Norwegian.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my newest Bernie Dexter Kelly dress. This one has a beautiful poppy print on it. I already had this print in another style, but I'm selling that one now, as I prefer this style. The other one I have is also super tight on my chest; I had bought it off of eBay, but the seller listed the size wrong, so it ended up being a size smaller, and just barely zips. So, I'm glad I have the Kelly now, which fits me better, and I just like the style better than the first one I had. Bob had given me a Bernie Dexter gift card as one of my Christmas presents, and I finally got to use it for this purchase.

Candy Kelly

Hello there! I'm so glad that January is coming to an end, as I really am not a fan of this month, or of February. After Christmas, it's depressing until spring comes. Too cold and bleak and gray, even though we have had one of our warmest winters on record, thus far.
Plus, in spring I'm going on two trips, so I am really looking forward to that.
I don't have much going on for this weekend. Today I'll be doing my usual Saturday tasks like cleaning, laundry, and working out. I saw three friends that I worked with at a former job on Thursday. I met them at a restaurant after work. I usually see them once a month, and it's nice to catch up with them.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my candy print Bernie Dexter Kelly dress that I got back in October, and posted about then, too. With the arrival of a new Kelly today, it'll bring my Kelly count up to 10. The kitchen print one is my favorite, but I would say this one is my second favorite. I mean, it's super bright, with sweets all over it...clearly, it's screaming my name! Some may think this is just a dress to wear in October, because of the candy theme, and yes, there little pumpkins and candy corn on it ha, but to me it's year round, since most of the candy is not exclusive to Halloween. I can't resist pairing this dress with an armful of rainbow Bakelite. They are the perfect pairing.
I got these bangles back in October, too, and now I'm obsessed with Bakelite! I got these from the Etsy shop BrighterBakelite, and I have since made a couple of other purchases. The shop posts new items every Monday & Thursday, so I always check it out on those days. They also do 20% off and 30% off sales fairly often, which is awesome. The problem is, if you spot a piece you really want and you wait for a sale, it may have sold by then. So, it's risky to wait.

Atomic Boomerang

Hello there! Well, today had a welcome change: it was sunny out! I don't think I'd seen the sun in over a week, and it was really getting old. It was also 48 degrees, which felt great when I went out at lunch. Tomorrow I'm meeting some former co-workers for a drink.
I don't have plans yet for the weekend, and it's fine with me if I don't end up making any.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my new to me Pin Up Girl Clothing atomic boomerang Ginger skirt and amoeba purse. This print had been a unicorn for me, as it's one I saw in pictures onlike and loved, but hadn't been made in years. I also really want the skirt in this print, but with the blue background. I got the dress in the Faceook PUG Swap & Sell group. It's quite comfy, and has a lot of stretch.
I also have long admired the PUG amoeba purses, but never actually bought one. I'm so glad I decided to finally give one try. I found this bright blue one on eBay for a great price. I love the funky shape of the purse, and think it aesthetically pairs well with the shapes on the dress. I also want this purse in red, and there's also one for a really good price on eBay right now, so I may end up getting it soon.
Unfortunately, I didn't have any color shoes other than black that matched with the dress, so I had to go with these black Mary Janes. I avoid wearing black shoes, unless nothing else will match, ha.

Vivian

Hello there! Yesterday I spent the day at home, cleaning, doing laundry, working out, and what not, and then at night Bob and I went out to a bar in town, and his brother met us there. My friend ended up not being able to make it. Today we're just staying in.
I had a couple pumpkin martinis last night, and they were sooo good! The best ones I've ever had. We had never been to this bar before. It was decent; it was quiet, but not empty, which is what I like when I go out. I can't stand when it's too loud and crowded.
I don't have much going on in this upcoming week, but I am meeting a friend on Thursday after work, for a drink.
In the pictures below I'm wearing one of my Retrospec'd poodle dresses (I have two of them), and I've posted about it before. This dress style is called Vivian, and it fits me better than my other Retrospec'd poodle dress style; that one is called Betty. The Betty one is super tight on my chest, and this one is much more comfortable all over. They're both the same size, too. I wear this one to work a lot. I love the shade of blue in the dress. My shoes don't match exactly, but it's close enough for me.

Sandi Poppies

Hello there! It's been so dreary and rainy here, and it's supposed to rain a lot between Sunday and Tuesday, great. As of today we have made it through one month of winter.
It's progress, but not enough of it!
I met my friend for dinner at Panera last night, and I got broccoli chedar soup, as I always do there, ha. Theirs is the best! Today I'm staying in, but tonight I'm going out to a bar with Bob, and we're meeting a friend there.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my Retrospec'd poppy print Sandi dress. I got this dress a couple of months or so ago, and did a blog post about it back then, too. I had been eyeing the print for a long time on Retrospec'd website. It's even more gorgeous in person. I was happy to find out my Erstwilder watermelon brooch matches the dress so well. I love pink & green paired together, and I don't do it too often. This dress is quite comfortable, in large part because it has smocking in the back of it.

Let Me Entertain You

Hello there! Last night I went to a board meeting at the school I work at, and tomorrow I'm meeting my friend for dinner at Panera (rescheduled for last Saturday when it snowed), and then Saturday night Bob and I are going out for drinks with a friend and her co-workers.
So, it's a bit of a busier week than normal for me. But, I like having at least a little something to do in the winter, because otherwise it's just so dreary and depressing being stuck inside at home and work.
I just can't wait until early spring, when we can start going on weekend day trips again. I know the first Saturday in March, which is still winter, I'll be going out to PA with my mom to go shopping, so I'm looking forward to that. Our favorite shop that's out there is closed during most of the winter, but that's their opening weekend, and I can't wait to see all the new Easter items she's made!
In the pictures below I'm wearing a Bernie Dexter Nicole style dress; the print is called "Let Me Entertain You", and I ordered it from Unique Vintage during their after Christmas sale. I avoid ordering from them at all costs, as I've had bad experiences with them in the past, including the fact that it takes longer for me to receive packages from them (they're located in Cali), than it does for me to receive things from Australia! But, the dress was a really good price, cheaper than on Bernie's price, so I decided to snag it. It took me two weeks to receive it from the time I placed the order, which is what I was expecting.
I wore this outfit when I went to the movies on Monday with my mom to see "La La Land". I avoid going to the movies, as it's so expensive, and it's much more comfortable to watch a movie at home, but I have been wanting to see that movie, and my mom has to, so she asked me if I would go. The movie was pretty good, and it didn't hurt getting to look at Ryan Gosling for two hours, ha! I love Emma Stone, as well. I just wish the ending had been different.

Rockin' Robin

Hello there! Yesterday it ended up snowing for a few hours, which was unexpected, as the forecast didn't say that. So, my plans got changed. I was supposed to go over a friend's place in the early afternoon, and then go to her with Panera to meet my other friend there. Those plans got scratched, and I just ended up goin to my friend's place later on at night, when it had stopped snowing. The roads were fine on my trip there and back, and I stayed out later than normal; I got home at 12:20!
My friend has an adorable Maine Coon kitten, so I got to hang out with him, too. He's five months old, and is so sweet and soft. Maine Coons are my very favorite cat breed! My parents have one Coon, but she may be mixed with something else. She's really small; and Coons are huge, the biggest cat breed. She's also extremly skittish, and wouldn't let humans touch her, but she loves other animals! If someone has an adorable cat or dog, and I'm over their house, I will be hanging out with the cat or dog A LOT, ha.
So, we booked our Vegas trip yesterday! I'm so excited, and relieved to have it booked, so I don't have to worry anymore about missing good flight times. It was cheaper to stay an extra night, so we are staying another night more than we originally had wanted. But, I'm okay with that! The last day of Viva is on a Sunday, and we are leaving early Tuesday afternoon. So, Monday will be completly Viva free. I want to check out some antiquing in Vegas; we've never done that before. So, I'm thinking Monday we'll do that, among other things. I also
always check out the seasonal displays in the Bellagio; they are such gorgeous works of art!
In the pictures below I'm wearing my robin print Retrospec'd Connie dress. I have three Connies. They are really comfortable, and great for all sorts of places. I wear them to work
a lot.

Courtney Dress

Hello there! Today I'll be doing  cleaning, laundry, working out, and taking down the tree, and then in the afternoon I'll be seeing a couple of friends, going to a friend's apartment, and then having an early dinner at Panera, which I haven't been to in quite awhile.
I'm really hoping to book our Vegas trip this weekend. I'm ready to just do it, but Bob likes to wait until it gets closer, to see if the prices drop at all. But, I don't like to wait too long, because usually the decent flight times disappear by then. I'll definitely feel better once it's booked. It's just under three months away now. We're going to stay at the Flamingo, which is a haul from the Orleans, where Viva is held, but we'll just use Uber to get there and back.
We like the Flamingo best of all the hotels we've stayed at in Vegas.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my new Trashy Diva Courtney dress/coat that I snagged for a GREAT price on eBay. It origially retailed for over $200, and I got it for under $100. It's in good condition, and the material is so heavy, and of great quality. I will not be wearing it as a coat, only as a dress. When I first saw it on eBay, that's what my plan was, for a couple of reasons: it's not thick enough to really be a coat, plus I wouldn't be able to fit a dress under it, because it's so tight on my bust. Also, I just love how it looks as a dress! I think the two large buttons are so cute, and that the shoes I'm wearing with the buttons on them go great with the dress. My Trashy Diva red dresses are my closet staples. You can't go wrong with a flattering, classic red dress, and no one makes flattering dresses like TD!
The bracelet I'm wearing is vintage celluloid from the 1930's or 40's. I got it from Etsy, and the condition is wonderful. It feels so neat to wear vintage jewelry. I don't yet own a vintage dress, but I'm sure I will at some point in the future! I almost bought a vintage polka dot shirt dress this week, but decided not to, mostly because it was pricey, and I didn't want to spend the money.

Rainbow Brite

Hello there! We had a two hour delay at work today (I work in a school) due to freezing rain, which was quite nice. It's the second one that's happened since I started there. I've yet to had a snow day though. Maybe that'll happen in February, since that's when we get the most snow usually.
I don't have too much going on this week, except I'm meeting a friend on Saturday at Panera, and another friend may be coming, too.
I received the rainbow skirt I'm wearing in the below pictures in the mail yesterday, from Modcloth. I wore it to work today. I LOVE it! It's my second rainbow stripe Modcloth skirt; they released this skirt in a pastel rainbow striped version last year. They're both quite comfy; they have a bit of elastic in the back of the waistband. This bright rainbow version runs a little bigger in the waist than my pastel one.
Modcloth hasn't been coming out with much I like at all in the past year or so. But, this time last year they did release a couple of items I loved, like the pastel rainbow skirt, and a rainbow dress. I occassionally buy BAIT Footwear shoes from them, too.
In the pictures I'm wearing Bakelite bangles I bought from the Etsy shop Brighter Bakelite. They're my favorite shop for Bakelite. They release new items in the shop every Monday & Thursday, so I always check them out on those days, and I just found out today that they're vending at Viva!! I can't wait to check out their booth.
I got a lot of comments from staff where I work today, about how brightly I was dressed.
I guess some of them don't notice I dress quite bright every day! I wish they'd all just get used to already. It's really hard being as shy as I am, and dressing the way I do, since it attracts so many looks and attention; things I don't want.

Get Your Ticket

Hello there! I'm glad I had no plans to go anywhere this weekend, as it's very cold here. I can't wait until later in the week when it'll reach 50 degrees! It'll feel like summer, ha.
Last night Bob and I booked our flights to Nashville and back, and also booked two more nights, but at a different hotel. We had originally booked Friday and Saturday at the Opryland Hotel, which is where the Nashville Boogie is being held, but we were unable to book other nights there, because they were booked. Bob called the Opryland Hotel again yesterday, and the only Wednesday and Thursday availability they had would be in a different room, and one that only had a sofa bed in it!
So, we scratched that, and booked a room for Wednesday and Thursday at their sister hotel across the street. We did it right away, because the woman at the Opryland Hotel that Bob spoke to said their sister hotel was almost booked already for those days. I feel much better now that we booked it, got the airfare, and we also bought our tickets to the Boogie itself
We will most likely be staying at my sister's apartment in Nashville on that Sunday and Monday, and are flying back on Tuesday evening.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my newest Bernie Dexter dress, which arrived yesterday. This tickets print first appeared on Bernie's website a couple of weeks or so ago in the Chelsea style, which has spaghetti straps. I ordered it right away, but once I saw this print on the site soon after in this Kelly style, I knew I had to have it instead. As I've said before, including in my blog post yesterday, shirt dresses are just so much easier for me to wear. I can wear them anywhere. So, as soon as I received my Chelsea dress in the mail, I shipped it back to Bernie's shop, to get an exchange for the Kelly.
I'm so glad I was able to exchange it for the Kelly. I love this print! The color palette is a bit different for me. There's dark blue and gray in the print, as well as the bright citrus colors. I played up the citrus colors palette with my Brighter Bakelite bangles. I meant to also pair my lime green Luxulite hoop earrings with this outfit, but forgot.
I had a Retrolicious rainbow tickets print dress that I got from Modcloth years ago, but I ended up selling it earlier this year, because it was quite short on me. I still loved the print though, so I'm really glad I now have a longer verison in my wardrobe.

Buzz, buzz!

Hello there! The weekend is upon us, yay! It was only a four day work week this week, but I was still eager for the weekend to start, ha. It's just hard to transition back to work after the holidays. This coming work week is a five day one, but then I'll have a three day weekend for MLK Jr. Day.
Bob and I aren't up to much this weekend. It'll mostly be spent at home. I'm hoping to book the Vegas trip, and airfare for Nashville. We have the Opryland hotel booked for the Nashville Boogie for that Friday & Saturday, but at the time it was booked for Thursday & Sunday. We're going to call and see if there are any openings for Wednesday & Thursday now.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my Bernie Dexter Jodi dress in the bumblee bee print.
I have four Jodis. They are low cut, so I have to wear a bandeau under them to work.
If this dress had come in one of her shirt dress styles, I would've gotten that instead, as shirt dresses are good (they're higher cut) for all places; work, family functions, etc. I have so many shirt dresses for multiple reasons, one of them being the reason I just mentioned; how easy they are to wear anywhere, and also I just find them quite flattering on me, plus I just love how they look.

This dress and brooch have me thinking spring! It's only been winter for 2.5 weeks, but, I'm over it! Big time over it. I have a lot to look forward to in spring too; I'm going to Vegas in April, & Nashville in May.
Oh, and as a side note: I got my first bangle stand this week! I ordered it from Etsy, and posted a picture below. I don't know why I waited so long to try one! I love seeing (almost) all of my fakelite together (I had a few that didn't fit on here). My real Bakelite it stored elsewhere.

Geisha Fans

Hello there! Well, I'm back in the swing of things, after a nice, long, relaxing break from work. It's always a little rough to come back to work after a vacation; like a jolt to the system, ha. I don't have much going on this week or weekend as of yet, which is fine by me.
I did a lot of cleaning things out/getting rids of things/organizing at our apartment over break, and I'm probably going to do just a tad more this weekend. After that, I'll be set. I love purging things; it makes me feel good. It also helps a lot since we're in an apartment and not an area with more space. Bob's going to start going through his stuff this week too; he wants to get rids of some things and take some things to his parents' house to keep there until we get our own house, which will hopfully be soon.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my Trashy Diva Geisha Fans Honey dress that I got from their website two years ago. It's still my most beloved "fancy" dress. I don't wear it to work. Since I bought it, I've brought it with me on I think all of my vacations I've gone on. I love wearing it in Vegas, and will be bringing it again in April. The Honey is one of my very favorite TD styles; it just works so well on my body. I have three Honeys right now, and this is my favorite of the bunch. The background shade of blue is divine, and the print is beyond gorgeous! TD uses a lot, and has always used a lot of Asian inspired prints in their designs, and I have loved most of their recent ones.  This is definitely my very favorite of all of their Asian inspired prints.

In The Kitchen

Hello there! Well, I knew it would happen quickly, and it did; my Christmas break is winding down; I go back to work on Tuesday. All good things must come to an end, I suppose. At least I'll have off again in a couple of weeks for MLK Day. It just stinks though, that after Christmas and New Year's, there's nothing really to look forward to until spring. Well, at least for me there's not, because I hate winter.
Yesterday I did some cleaning, laundry, worked out, and went to Bethlehem for an early dinner with Bob. I also finished watching "The OA". It's a Netflix series, and there's only one season available right now. It's a decent show; it's about the supernatural, specifically near death experiences. I liked "Stranger Things" better though, and can't wait for it to come back!
I'm not doing much at all today, just staying home and doing alot of relaxing. I'm also going to do doing some organizing, and going through some things in the apartment to get rid of stuff. Oh, and Bob's going to cut my hair today, and I'm looking forward to that. He cut it about
3 months ago, but it grows so fast!
In the pictures below I'm wearing my favorite Bernie Dexter Kelly dress, and it was also my first Kelly dress. I've had it for a year now, and I get  alot of wear out of it. I especially love wearing it when I go antiquing, and you can probably guess why! I do love a good theme, ha. This Kelly is super tight on my bust, and after I ordered my first three Kellys I started ordering up one size to have extra room in the bust.
