The Best Halloween Skirt

Hello there! Well, I'm a bit annoyed right now, because my parents and I were supposed to fly to New Orleans tomorrow at 1:00 p.m., but a hurricane may hit New Orleans, so our plans may get delayed. My mom prematurely cancelled our hotel in NOLA for tomorrow night, which I'm not happy about, because as of now our flight is still on time, which of course could change between now and then. I've been watching the weather, and it seems NOLA isn't going to get hit badly, that it's going to be much worse in Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and hopefully, if our flight does end up leaving tomorrow, my mom can re-book the hotel room, or book a different hotel.
Today I'm just staying home and doing cleaning, laundry, packing, working out, and relaxing. My mom's stopping by too, to discuss the trip/weather situation. I didn't do too much this week, just visited a friend on Thursday at her apartment.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my Pinup Girl Clothing Halloween skirt, which I so dearly love. It's big in the waist on me, and not the most flattering piece of clothing I own, but the print is AMAZING!! I get tons of compliments on this one. I don't own much PUG anymore, but I will never get rid of this piece. The only own Halloween-ish piece of clothing I own is my Bernie Dexter candy print Kelly dress, but I wear that one year round, ha. I only wear this skirt in the fall. I picked up these cheap plastic bangles when Bob and I were at the shore last weekend, and they ended up matching this skirt perfectly! I hadn't even been thinking about the skirt when I bought them.

Carnival Kitty

Hello there! It's been so chilly here the past couple of mornings! It was 40 degrees yesterday morning, and our heat wasn't working, and hasn't worked yet. Bob called the complex today to let them know; this has also happened the last two Octobers, where we had to call and complain, and then they sent someone out to fix it. They couldn't fix it today, because the temperature quickly rose, and the heat only works if it's 50 degrees or lower. So, they said to watch it tonight, and see if it works then.
This week has been super busy at work so far, which does make the day fly by, but can also be a bit stressful. It hasn't been that stressful yet, but I did have something frustrating come up at the end of the day today, so I stayed a little late, but I couldn't figure it out before I left. I'll be working on it again first thing in the morning, and luckily my co-worker is going to help me, as she has done before with this issue. There's some things I need to get done this week at work, before I go away on Sunday(!), so that does add a little pressure.
I can't believe I'm going away in 5 days! I can't wait to traipse the streets of the French Quarter with my mom, doing lots of shopping and eating yummy things, especially Po-boys. We're also going to go to the Botanical Gardens there, and I've never been there before.
My mom is very into flowers, so I figured it was a good idea for something for us to do.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my very first Vivien of Holloway purchase, which I received today! I had thought about ordering from the company for a couple of years, and I finally did it. Bob paid for part of the dress as a birthday present to me. Shirt dresses are my very favorite dress style to wear, and I love this one! The style is called Kitty. I love the length, the pockets, the buttons, the print, and the background shade of red, which is my favorite shade of red. The print is of a fair of carnival. The dress is also comfortable, and will be perfect to wear to work or outside of work. It fits my chest well; there's not even button gaping, but it is really big on my waist, so I just added the belt to hide that.

Pucker Up

Hello there! Well, I had a nice short day at work today; I went in until 10:00 a.m., then drove to meet my mom, so we could carpool to an insurance meeting for our work (we both work at schools'; she's a business administator, and I'm an assistant to a business administrator). The meeting wasn't long, and I got home around 2:15, which is great! It was funny, because the table we sat at had among others: myself, my mother, my dad's cousin, and the first boss my mom had at a school, and she hadn't seen me in about fifteen years (my mom and her have remained friends since my mom left that school about twenty years ago).
My dad's cousin is also a BA.
Yesterday was my birthday, so tonight Bob and I are going to my parent's house for cake.
My grandparents will be there, too. Tomorrow we're leaving for Asbury Park for the weekend. The weather's supposed to be sunny, but cool, about 65 for the high. I hope I find some good things while antiquing down there!
I can't believe I'm leaving in 9 days to head to New Orleans with my parents! It's coming so fast now. I pretty much know what outfits I'll be packing, naturally. I can't wait to show my mom around the French Quarter & Garden District.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my Bernie Dexter lipstick print Lauren dress. I love the Lauren style, and wish that Bernie would release this style again soon, in new prints! I think it may be the most flattering style on me of all her dresses.

Well Read

Hello there! Today I'll be going to Bob's great aunt's 90th birthday party/family reunion, about an hour away from us. Otherwise, I'm not doing much today, besides running to Target and doing some reading. I recently started reading "This Boy's Life", which my grandmother lent me a long time ago, and I never had read. It's a memoir, which is my favorite genre of books. I'm about a third of the way through, and it's definitely good so far.
I'm really looking forward to going to Asbury Park again, this coming weekend. Bob and I are staying over there for one night, and it'll be nice to get back there again before the weather starts to cool here. We're also going to two nearby towns there to go to antique malls, and we haven't been those antique malls before, so I'm hoping I'll have some antiquing luck!
In the pictures below I'm wearing my beloved Bernie Dexter book print dress, that I've had for about four years now. It was my very first Bernie, and although it's always been big on my waist, and I wish I had gotten in the size down, I still LOVE it!! As I've said a few times before, I am an avid reader, always have been, and I also have an English degree. So a book print dress is beyond perfect for me! This dress is extremely rare, and I'm so glad I scored it way back when.

1940's Big Band Bows

Hello there! Last night Bob and I visited my grandmother, and today I'm doing cleaning, laundry, and working out. Tomorrow Bob and I are going to his great aunt's 90th birthday party/family reunion, and it's about an hour away from us. It's 84 degrees today, and going to be almost 90 degrees tomorrow & Monday, so it definitely doesn't feel like fall here!  Bonus is it's super sunny today, and supposed to be the next few days, too.
Bob and I have been watching "Mystery Science Theater" recently, on Netflix. I had never seen it before, and he hadn't in a long time. If you aren't familiar with it, it's a show where they play a crappy movie, usually an old movie, and these comedians talk during the movie, making fun of it. You'd have to see it! It's usually pretty funny. You can't believe how crappy these movies are!! How movies like that get the go ahead to be made is beyond me!
In the pictures below I'm wearing my Trashy Diva Big Band Bows 1940's dress that I got from a lovely lady int he TD Facebook group I'm in, about three weeks ago. She remembered I was in search of this one, and messaged me to let me know she was ready to let hers go! I already had this print in a different style, but I adore the print so much that I wanted it in this 1940's style, too. I don't do that much, but I have about four TD print in two different styles. Sometimes a print is just THAT good!
I don't have too many dresses that match the shade of blue that these heels are, but this print matches them really well. I just love this shade of blue; it's so bright and pretty. Also, these shoes are so comfy; I really hope BAIT Footwear brings this style back. It's called the Roni, and they only released the style once, in three colors. I have all three colors, of course.

Poppy Kelly

Hello there! Phew, this week has been hot out! We had some cooler weather for a bit earlier this month, but the warm, sticky weather is officially back now. I can't believe Friday is the first day of fall already; crazy! I'm such a summer girl, and it's always hard for me to accept when it's over. Of course, summer goes by more quickly for me than any other season.
Today I went to the dentist for a cleaning, which is not something I look forward to, at all. They found no cavities, BUT, I do need to get a crown, because I have a crack in a filling...so, that'll be fun! I'm going back in a month for that 2 hour procedure. I'm crossing my fingers that I won't have to pay too much out of pocket for that. I don't have much going on the rest of the week, just visiting my grandmother on Friday at her place.
Last Sunday we went to a family dinner at a local restaurant for my other grandmother's 76th birthday, and this Sunday we're going to Bob's great aunt's 90th birthday party/family reunion. I really don't like to go out on Sundays, but we just happen to be doing so three weekends in a row! The Saturday after this one we'll be going back to Asbury Park, and this time we're staying over for a night. The reason we're staying over is because we're going to check out a tiki bar they have there! The bar doesn't open until 9:00 p.m., and Asbury Park is an hour and a half from where we live.
I'm excited to check out the tiki bar, especially because there's not really any around us. During the day we'll go to antique malls in that area, eat lunch at the amazing sub shop they have in town, grab some ice cream, and have a drink at the Bier Garden. I really do like that town; we just went for the first time two months ago. I'm glad we finally found some place in New Jersey we can day trip to, as our other day trip spots are in PA.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my Bernie Dexter poppy print Kelly dress. I just love a great floral print. I don't have too many accessories that match this dress that well, so I usually just pair it with these poppy and green Splendette bangles. I wear my Bernie Kelly dresses to work all the time. They're so comfortable, and easy to wear.

Shore Getaway

Hello there! Last weekend Bob and I went to Wildwood & Cape May. I had never been before, and he had only been once a long time ago. We had a really good time. The weather was in the low 70's during the day and very sunny all weekend long. We got down there Friday around 4:30 p.m., and left Monday morning.
We stayed at a 1950's motel called the Caribbean Motel. Wildwood actually has the largest amount of 1950's motels in the country, some still operational. There are so many neat neon signs still there, and I got a lot of pictures of them. Our motel room had Heywood Wakefield furniture in it! I wanted to take it all home with me! I loved our room. It had vintage reproduction midcentury modern lamps, too. The motel had a nice heated pool too, which I swam in on Sunday for a bit.
On Friday night we walked about a mile to grab dinner at an Irish pub called Cattle N Clover. We weren't too impressed with the food, especially not our appetizer of mozarella sticks, and it's hard to mess up mozarella sticks! After we were done with dinner, we walked back to our motel, hung out there for a bit, and then got an Uber to North Wildwood, where we got dropped up at another Irish pub. We had a drink there, and then walked around the area to check it out. We sat at another outdoor bar and had a couple of drinks, and then got an Uber back to our motel.
On Saturday morning we headed to Cape May, which is about fifteen minutes south. I loved Cape May! It's such an adorable little town. There are colorful Victorian homes all over, which is one of the big things CM is known for. We went to a few antique shops, and other shops, and I got a few small things. We also had an early lunch at a place called Dock Mike's Pancake House, which was really busy, and we had to wait about half an hour for a table. The food was decent there.
After we were done shopping, we headed back to Wilwood to go to the beach. We weren't sure how far we'd be able to go into the water, because of how cold we'd be. The water temperature was the same as the air temperature! We did go in, but I didn't submerge completly, although Bob did. It was really nice to get to go in though, and to lay on the beach and listen to the water. I love that sound.
After we left the beach, we went back to our room, and got ready to go out for dinner. We walked to a place on the boardwalk called Doo Wop Diner. It actually is rated the #1 place on Trip Advisor to eat in Wildwood. It's a 50's style diner, with 50s's style tables and vinyl booths, and the waitresses even wear poodle skirts. Our waitress was really sweet. I just got a tuna wrap there, and it wad fine. It's hard to mess that dish up!
That's enough for now; I'll write more about the rest of the trip in another blog post!

Vintage Plaid

Hello there! Bob and I got back from Wildwood & Cape May yesterday afternoon. We had a great time, and such sunny, beautiful weather every day. We went in the ocean on both Saturday & Sunday, and I'm so glad we got to do that! I just love swimming in the ocean.
I don't like to lay on the sand for too long, but I do love hearing the soothing waves lapping on the shore. The water was warmer than the air temperature, so unless we submerged ourselves, it was chilly for the parts of our body not under the water. We were only there for two full days (Sat & Sun); we got there Friday evening, and left Monday morning. So, the trip flew by, naturally!
I'll do a blog post about it soon, probably this weekend. So, this week is another short work week for me, and next week will be my first full work week in quite awhile.
In the pictures below I'm wear a colorful, fabulous vintage dead stock shirt dress that I bought from Etsy recently, and for a great price! It came with the original tags still attached; and I think that's so neat!  I don't want to take them off! The dress came with a thin brown belt, but I didn't think it did anything for me, so I won't wea it with the dress.
I feel like I'm wearing a piece of history when I wear vintage clothing. I've been quite lucky with finding vintage dresses lately, and my aesthetic seems to have shifted to vintage and Trashy Diva, with rare exceptions (specifically Bernie Dexter and Retrospec'd).
I love that this dress has a lot of colors in it, but it's not crazy bright or anything. Don't get me wrong, I really love my super bright dresses, but it's also nice to have some variety in my closet.

Puffer Fish

Hello there! Is it Friday yet?? It's a short week, and I'm still antsy for it to be Friday arleady, ha! I have a half day on Friday too, so tomorrow is my last full day this week. This week's been pretty quiet thus far, but on Friday Bob and I are headed to Wildwood and Cape May for three nights. It'll be SO nice to get away, especially after all the stress and sadness of the last few months. We haven't been away at all, even for a long weekend, since May.
We wanted to go on this trip during July or August but were unable to because of his mom's health, so I don't think we'll even get to swim in the ocean due to the cooler weather. It's only supposed to be 70 degrees while we're there. But, it's supposed to be sunny every day, so that's great! If it's too cool to swim in the ocean, I am DEFINITELY swimming in the heated pool! Bob doesn't like pools, but I told him he doesn't have to go in with me, he can hang out on a lounge chair.
I started packing, and will finish tomorrow. Of course I've been planning my outfits for weeks now. It'll be nice to take outfit pictures in front of pretty and interesting backdrops, as opposed to my usual boring kitchen/dining room back drop. Another reason I can't wait to have a house, is to have different back drops to choose from, including using different areas of our yard. We have no privacy where we currently live, which is why I rarely take pictures outside here.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my Oblong Box Shop puffer skirt that I got a couple of years ago, and my Pin Up Girl Clothing purple Harley top. I don't have too many skirts that this top matches with; but it matches this one quite well. This print is just too cute.
