Fruity 40's

Hello there! Tonight Bob and I are going out with his friend and friend's wife for drinks, and tomorrow I'll be meeting a friend for lunch. Other than that, it'll be a pretty low key weekend for us (lots of Netflix, reading, working out, and cleaning for me), which I'm very much looking forward to!
In the pictures below I'm wearing my new to me vintage 1940's shirt dress! I got it from an Etsy vintage clothing shop, called Birthday Life Vintage. I had never ordered from that shop before, but I was very happy with my purchase, the speed of shipping, and the sweet little thank you card she enclosed. I just love purchasing from small businesses! This dress has the cutest fruit print on it! You KNOW I'm a sucker for fruit prints. The dress is made of cotton, and is quite comfy, and also fits very well, which made me so happy. There's not even any gaping with the buttons over my chest. It's so hard for me to find great vintage in a print I love that also fits me, so when I do, it's very exciting! Bonus if it's also a shirt dress! In addition, I was glad the neckline wasn't as high as the neckline on my other two vintage dresses. I think necklines like the one on this dress are more flattering on me, than super high necklines.
Even though there's only a month left in summer (wahhhh!), I'll be definitely wearing this dress into fall! How could I not?? I have some fruit dresses with white backgrounds, that I probably won't wear into fall much, but I think it works better with the black background. Oh well, I do what I want anyway, when it comes to fashion!

Harlequin Heart

Hello there! This week is a fairly quiet one for me. I'm meeting a friend for lunch on Saturday. This past weekend was busier than usual for me, with a lot of family time. I saw my sister for the first time since Christmas. I went with her and my mom to look at a couple of wedding venues on Friday. Saturday Bob and I went to my parent's house for my grandmother's 90th birthday party. As long as my mind is okay and my health, I hope I make it that long! We do have really good genes/longevity on both sides of the family, so that's a great thing. I can't imagine how it feels though to have lived almost a whole century; what a lot of change, and hopefully progress you must see! Hopefully I see more progress in my lifetime than my grandmother has seen.
Trashy Diva launched a new collection today, but unfortunately, I don't care for the new print, so I won't be buying anything. TD is my favorite vintage repro brand, and I always am very excited for new launches! So, it was disappointing for me, but good for my wallet, ha.
The background color is olive green, which is not a color I like, and the print itself is of bicycles and mimes, with a lot of white in it. Oh well, hopefully I love the next launch!
In the pictures below I'm wearing my Heart of Haute harlequin dress. I got this dress a couple of years or so ago, and still ADORE this print! Harlequin is one of my favorite prints, period, and I really love this bright color palette. My Splendette purple & teal bangles match the dress really well. I don't wear much purple at all, so I don't get to wear my Splendette purple bangles too often. I'm also wearing my Shoe Bakery ice cream flats in these pics. These were my first Shoe Bakery shoes, probably about three years ago. I have one other pair of SB flats currently. Their shoes are so darn cute!
Oh, and Bob cut my hair about a week ago, so, when curly, it's super short now! I'm so lucky I have an amazing man who cuts my hair and cooks for me!!

What A Cupcake!

Hello there! Today I'll be with my mom and sister, looking at some wedding venues. They're going to a few all over the area, but I'm not going to all of them. I'll also be visiting Bob's family this afternoon. I'm also doing some laundry and cleaning. Tomorrow is my grandmother's 90th birthday party, and it's at my parent's house. It won't be big; they'll just be a few of us there. My other grandparents will be there, my sister, and a couple of my dad's cousins.
Last night I went out with some friends from a former job, to celebrate on of my friend's birthday, and the news that he got a new job. He had still been at that place since I left a year and a half ago, and someone else in our group still is there. I'm very happy for him for moving on and moving up. It's always somewhat scary to leave somewhere you've gotten used to, no matter how toxic the environment.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my Unique Vintage cupcake skirt that I got a year ago, and have posted about before. It was an ordeal trying to get this skirt; there were a lot of shipping delays, and then errors on their part as far as my payment. It was strange and annoying, and I try to avoid ordering from them. They also use Fed-Ex for shipping, which takes a week to come to me. Anyway, I do love this super cute, sweet skirt. The bright shade of blue in the skirt matches my PUG Sabrina blue top really well. This is my favorite shade of blue, by the way.

1940's Cranes

Hello there! Yesterday I had fun going to an antique mall with my mom, and then a classic car show with my parents and Bob. I actually didn't buy anything at the antique mall, which is good for my wallet, ha. The classic car show was held at a 50's style restaurant about 40 minutes from where I live, and a few minutes from the antique mall. I hadn't been to this restaurant in about ten years. The weather was PERFECT, too! It was really humid and gross on Friday, but there wasn't any humidity yesterday, and it was in the 70's.
It's a typical Sunday for Bob and me today; just hanging around at home, and he's doing lots of cooking and baking for the upcoming week. Next week will be busier; my sister, mom, and I are looking at wedding venues for my sister's wedding on Friday, it's my grandmother's 90th birthday party on Saturday, and I also am meeting up with some friends one night.
I've recently gotten into vintage tablecloth and dish towels. I was buying reproduction tablecloths for a couple of years, but now I've really been searching for cute vintage ones.
I just got two in the mail from the same shop, and the one was my #1 most sought after tablecloth, so I immediately put it on our little table in the kitchen (we don't eat at it) and I'm in LOVE! It's so kitschy and adorable. I can't wait to have it in our kitchen in our house too, because we're going to have a red & turquoise kitchen, and the tablecloth is red, turquoise & yellow. I posted pictures of both of my new ones below.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my Trashy Diva cranes 1940's dress that I got in a trade a month or so ago. I had this print in the L'amour style, and I traded that dress for this one. I like this one better on me, and am glad I was able to trade. I've only been into the Trashy Diva 1940's dress for a few months now, and have three currently in my closet. I hope they come out with more soon; I think the style is quite flattering on me.

For The Record

Hello there! Yesterday I did my weekly cleaning and laundry, worked out, read, ran an errand, and watched some Netflix. I started watching the Netflix show called "Ozark".
I watch four episodes, and it's a decent show; there's six more episodes left. It's a drama starring Jason Bateman and Laura Linney.
Today I'm going to an antique mall (it's actually inside of an old mill) with my mom and then going to a 50's themed restaurant with my parents that has a big car show in their parking lot every Saturday in the summer. My dad's been wanting Bob and me  to go with them for awhile (they go a lot). They take my dad's old 1950 GMC truck with them when they go. I'm not sure yet if Bob will be coming with me, as he has some things he wants to take care of today.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my Bernie Dexter record print Kelly dress. I've had this one for over a year now, and just love this print so much. I used to have this print in a Modcloth dress, but sold it, and then I had it in another Bernie style, but also got rid of that one, as I love the Kelly style so much. So, it took me three tries, but I got it right in the end!
I love highlighting the seafoam shade of green in the dress; so I pretty much always wear seafoam heels with it, and I love pairing this seafoam Bakelite bangle that I got at the Nashville Boogie with it, too.

Vintage 40's Skirt

Hello there! I'm not doing much tonight; I worked out, and will just be reading, and relaxing/watching Netflix. Oh, I can't wait for the weekend. I don't have much planned as of now, but that's fine by me. Next Saturday is my grandmother's 90th birthday party, and next Friday I'll be looking at a couple of potential wedding venues with my mom and sister for my sister's wedding.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my new to me vintage 40's skirt that I picked up last Saturday at Retro Fest. It is a couple of inches or so too big on my waist, but I couldn't find a belt that looked good with it. It's also longer than I like and typically wear, and not as full skirted, but the fruit print is so darn dreamy. I love that there's a lot of red in it too, as it pairs well with my red tops. I wore the skirt to work earlier this week, but I hardly ever wear my vintage items to work, as I don't want to wear them too much, since they're priceless to me, and also because they are so old, it'd be easier for them to fall apart (the four vintage clothing items I have are all made out fabric that's pretty thin). The shoes I'm wearing in the pictures match the skirt so well, and I love that they're also 40's inspired, so this is quite the 40's outfit.

Retro Fest

Hello there! Yesterday Bob and I went out to Lancaster, PA for Retro Fest, a rockabilly festival in its second year, and held at Lancaster Host Hotel. We didn't know about it last year, but when I heard about Retro Fest #2 back in December, I made sure to note it, especially because Lancaster is only a little over two hours away from us, as opposed to most rockabilly events being a plane ride away (or VERY long car ride!). We got there just after 10:00 a.m. (it started at 10). After we purchased our $20 tickets ($20 each), we went straight to the vendor rooms, which was of course my idea to go their first, ha. I was happily surprised by the amount of antique and vintage clothing vendors. Nashville Boogie also had a lot of vintage clothing vendors, but not so much of antique home decor. Lancaster is in the heart of antique country though (right by Adamstown, PA, which is the antique capita of the U.S., and where I was last Saturday).
I bought a few things: a light lime green Pyrex small caserole dish, two bright blue bangles (not Bakelite), and a 1940's vintage fruit print skirt. My favorite find was the skirt. As soon as I spotted it on the rack I grabbed it, and saw that the waist was not tiny, like many vintage skirts are, so I was hopeful it'd fit me. They had a couple of dressing rooms there, and I quickly went over to try it on. It was actually a couple of inches bigger than my waist, but I still bought it. I knew it was special as soon as I saw the fabric. If you've been reading my blog for awhile, you know how much I love wearing fruit prints and fruit jewelry! Since the skirt is from the 40's, it's a straighter cut than what I usually wear. I don't think it's as flattering on me as my full 50's style skirts, but I will deal! Finding the skirt made the whole trip worth it.
After I shopped, we headed out to take a look at the car show. It was small, compared to what we're used to seeing, and sadly there were none of the Bel Airs or Caddys that I love. There were a handful of vendors out there too, but I didn't buy anything else.  There wasn't much in the way of food or drink at the venue, so we headed over to Friendly's to grab lunch. It was only 5 mins away, which was nice. After we ate lunch, we went back over to Retro Fest. I perused the vendor rooms one more time, and I ran into a couple of ladies I "know" from Instagram. I got a picture with one of them, and ended up having a nice long chat with her later on.
We tried to watch the Pinup Contest, but the room was so crowded that we really couldn't see anything, and at times, could barely hear, so that was frustrating. After the contest we watched a band I had wanted to see, Blue Wave Theory. They're an instrumental surf rock band. We stayed for most of their set, and then we left. We went to an antique mall about 15 minutes away, but I didn't find anything there. Then we started our trip home, and made one more stop, at Vegan Treats in Bethlehem. I've been to Bethlehem many times, but never had been to Vegan Treats, and somehow had never heard of it until this month.  It was named one of the top 10 bakeries in the world in 2012! I had also never been to a vegan bakery before, and am not vegan.
Unfortunately, they said they had sold out of donuts early that morning, and I had most wanted to try donuts there. But, the confetti cake also caught my eye, and I got that, and a double chocolate brownie. Well, the confetti cake was definitely my favorite of the two! It was so sweet and delicious. I love sweet food, but it was almost too sweet for me...don't' get me wrong, I'll be getting it again in the future, ha! The brownie was pretty dry, but I liked it, just didn't LOVE it. Next time we're in Bethlehem, we'll definitely be going back, and *hopefully* there'll be donuts!!
I wore my Trashy Diva carnival Annette dress; one of my favorite dresses. I got tons of sweet compliments on it all day.

The 40's skirt I scored!

This Dress Is For The Birds

Hello there! Bob and I will just be staying in tonight, but tomorrow's a big day; we're heading out to Lancaster, PA for the day to go to Retro Fest. It's supposed to rain there ugh, but I hope it doesn't last all day! There's going to be bands, a pin up contest, vendors, a car show, etc., like more rockabilly festivals.
We finished season seven of "Shameless" on Wednesday night, and it was a great finale, as I expected it would be. It's so hard to wait for new episodes to come out! Every season is phenomenal, and full of really surprising twists and turns. I hope there are many more seasons of it, but so far for now, I read it's been renewed for one more season.
In the picture below I'm wearing my Trashy Diva turquoise birds Lena Sarong. It's my second sarong dress; I added my first one to my closet last month in a Trashy Diva dress swap (and blogged about it last month).Sarongs wil never be my very favorite dress style, as I will always love big, full skirts the most, but I do like how these TD sarongs look on me. I've yet to try another brand. This birds print is very rare and hard to find, and I just really lucked out by getting this one recently, as well as the Lupe in this print that I got last month in a dress swap. I don't have to many multiples in the same print, but if a print is THAT good, I'll make an exception for it! Sarongs are obviously perfect for summertime, but I don't want to own too many, since I like to get as much year round wear as possible out of my dresses.
I paired my colorful fruity Luxulite necklace with this dress. The blue in it matches the dress quite well, and I just think tropical fruity necklaces go well with this tropical dress. Now, can I please go have a dacquiri.... or Blue Hawaiian at a tiki bar on the beach??

Pastel Rainbow (Again!)

Hello there! I haven't had much going on this week, as of yet. Saturday Bob and I are planning on going out to Lancaster, PA for Retro Fest; a rockabilly festival. It's a weekend long event, but we are just going Saturday, and not staying over night. It's a little over two hours from us. It's the second year of the festival, and will be our first time attending.
I'm excited to check it out! It obviously won't be nearly as big as Viva or the Boogie, but there are going to be a decent amount of vendors there, which is great. I know there will be at least a few vendors with vintage clothing and antiques too, and I'm especially excited for those vendords. Lancaster is right by Adamstown, which is where I went antiquing last Saturday.
I jus discovered the other day that there were a few new episodes of "Shameless" available on Netflix. Bob and I have one more to watch tonight, and then we're all caught up. Ugh, it's still such a GREAT show!! I'm never disappointed by it.
In the pictures below I'm wearing one of my Modcloth rainbow striped skirts (I also have one in bolder shades). Doesn't this skirt's colors and stripes look so much like the vintage rainbow dress I blogged about in my last post?? Never enough rainbow for this lady, though!
I paired my new Luxulite ice cream brooch with this outfit. I don't wear too many pastels, as I clearly lean towards brighter shades of color, but I still do love a good pastel outfit.

Rainbow Vintage

Hello there! Yesterday I had a full day of antiquing with my mom in Adamstown, PA. We hadn't been since December. Adamstown is known as the antique capital of the U.S. There's
over 1,000 vendors in 7 miles. We went to about seven antique malls while we were there.
A couple of the big ones aren't open on Saturdays, unfortunately, which to me is very odd.
I found a few small things: two cheap bangles, a plastic Santa (it still lights up when plugged in!), an adorable cherry print apron, and a Christmas recipe box. My favorite find was the Santa. I had first seen it on the cover of Golden Glow magazine a few months ago, and I loved it! After that, I didn't see it while browsing online or at antique stores, until yesterday.
I found it for $22.40 (it was 10% off), and then at the next antique mall I went in with, I saw another one, marked $85 and it was 20% off, but still, I think I got a really good deal!
The recipe box was only $3 and the apron was $8!
In the pictures below I'm wearing my latest true vintage dress! I only had one before this, the one I bought in Nashville, and that I mentioned in my last blog post. I bought this vintage beauty from an Etsy shop called Zest Vintage. I had never heard of the shop before, but an online friend tagged me in the shop's Instagram post about this amazing dress. Luckily I saw the tag a few minutes after, and immediately went to Zest's Etsy shop, although I figured it probably wouldn't be in my size. To my amazement, it was my size! I was so excied and bought it lightning fast. When I went back to Instagram to thank the lovely lady who tagged me, she told me she checked out the measurements before tagging me in the post! Wasn't that so kind of her to do?? Even though it seemed the dress would fit me, it does have a dreaded side zipper, so I was still somewhat nervous about it zipping.
When I got home after antiquing yesterday, the dress was there waiting for me. I put it on first thing, and was even able to zip it by myself, without assistance from Bob. I was so relieved! I of course LOVE the bright pastel rainbow print! The material is thin and lightweight. I love the matching belt it came with, too. After finding this dress I did an Etsy search and there were a few more of these rainbow dresses on Etsy, but none with the belt. The brand is Jerry Gilden, and I'll definitely keep doing Etsy & eBay searches for more of that brand's vintage dresses!
