Pastel Rainbow Brite

Hello there! I left work early today, because I had a stomach ache, and luckily it pretty much went away now, I just have a bit of soreness. I'm not sure what that was about, and I'm very lucky, I almost never have any stomach issues. I didn't want to have to leave work, but I'm glad I left when I did (around noon), as it just got worse after I got home.
Yesterday Bob and I went to his friend's surprise 35th birthday party, which was about 40 minutes away. Bob doesn't see his friends much, especially the ones who live farther away, so he was really happy to go to the party yesterday, which was held at a different friend's house. We got to meet his friend's 6 week old son while we were there! He was soooo adorable! He hardly cried, either, which was nice.
Saturday I met my friend at Panera, and then we went to a couple of nearby shops.
I got a hot air balloon print scarf; I don't usually buy scarves unless they are winter/outdoor scarves, but this one was too cute to pass up, and only $9.99!
In the pictures below I'm wearing the outfit I wore yesterday to the surprise party. I love this vintage dress SO darn much. I don't wear it to work though, as it's a thin, satiny type material, and I don't want to risk damaging it at work. I wear some of my vintage dresses to work, but not all of them. I don't own too many pastel colored dresses, but the pastel shades in this dress are bright shades of pastel, and I really love them.

I'm wearing one of my new pairs of BAIT shoes in these pictures. I hadn't like many of BAIT's releases in the past few months or so, but they released a lot of new shoes last week, and I loved these, and I got one other pair, which is dark blue and tan. I love this bright shade of green, and the style. It's a new BAIT style, as is the blue pair that I got. I think BAIT usually does 30% off for Black Friday, and I'm already thinking of a couple of pairs I'd like to get then!

Gingham & Pie

Hello there! I'm so happy that the weekend is here. Yesterday really felt like a Friday to me, so this week felt extra long. Tonight I'll be watching "Stranger Things"! Season two became available on Netflix today, and I'm so excited to see it. I hope it doesn't disappoint, after such a great first season. Tomorrow I'll be going to lunch with my friend at Panera, and I also went to Panera yesterday, ha. Last night I went with Bob, my mom, and grandmother.
I'm really looking forward to next Saturday, when Bob and I are going to the Allentown Toy Show (it's for antique toys, and they also sell antique holiday items). My parents and mom's cousin and her husband will be going, as well. Bob and I went last year, too, but before that I hadn't been since my parents dragged me there when I was little. Last year when we went I hadn't yet gotten my first bottle brush tree or ceramic tree, which I now collect, so this year I will be on the hunt for them, especially bottle brush trees. This is the beginning of the antique show season around here. Two weeks later we'll be going to Lancaster, PA for a vintage holiday fair; which is about two hours away from us.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my Bernie Dexter gingham Nicole dress that I got about a year ago. Red gingham is one of my favorite prints. I love my Erstwilder cherry pie brooch, and wear it often. Gingham & cherry pie just go perfectly together, I think! The weather is cooling down a bit, so I am going to start wearing my 3/4 sleeve and long sleeve dresses again, and I only have a few of them.

The Big Easy, Trip #5 For Me

Hello there! Well, another work week has started up, after yet another weekend that just flew by. This post is going to be about the beginning of the trip that I took with mom to New Orleans and Nashville. On Sunday, 10/8, we flew to New Orleans, and even got in a few minutes early, despite the hurricane that was supposed to hit NOLA the day before, but luckily bypassed them. We got in around 3:00 p.m., and took an Uber to our hotel on Chartres Street in the French Quarter. I had never been in this hotel before, and it was quite nice, and in a good area, as far as proximity to plenty of places to walk to.
I had made reservations at GW Fins for dinner, so my mom and I headed over there after hitting a couple of shops on the way. I had been there once before, with my husband on our honeymoon. It's a really nice restaurant, with yummy food. I ordered soft shell crab this time, and it was the very first time I've ever ordered seafood at a restaurant before! I'm obviously not very into seafood, but my meal was good, and the bread we got was quite good, too. We both had chocolate mousse for dessert, and while it was fine, it wasn't as good as my mom's!
Monday we did a lot of shopping in the Quarter, had beignets at the famous Cafe Du Monde (they take like funnel cake!), went to Johnny's Po Boys for breakfast for my mom and an early lunch for me, and also took an Uber to Magazine Street to do some shopping there, as well, and we had a donut at Distrit Donuts, which I make sure to go to every time I'm on Magazine Street. Some of the shops were already closing up when we left there around 5:00, but we only missed one place I wanted to go to. We got an Uber back to the Quarter, and went to dinner at the French Market Restaurant, which I've eaten at a few times with Bob. My mom and I both got a salad there, and we did a little bit more shopping after dinner, and then went back to our room.
We went back to our room much earlier each night than I'm used to doing, ha! But, I didn't really mind, especially because it was CRAZY hot & humid while we there, although it did get a little better in the evenings. We also went back to the room to rest in the afternoon Monday-Wednesday, and we timed it right concidentally each time, because we missed the afternoon rain while we were in our room.
On Tuesday we went to City Park and the Sculpture Gardens and Botanical Gardens there, and we took a street car to get there. I had never been there on my previous trips, and I'm glad we checked it out this time. It's so neat to be in a beautiful, quiet area like that within such a vibrant city.
My mom and I walked over to Frenchman street around 4:00 p.m., and grabbed some dinner there, and then went to the Spotted Cat Music Club, which is my favorite spot to watch live music. I had looked up their event calendar online ahead of time, and it said that Meschiya Lake & The Little Big Horns would be playing that evening, but unfortunately it was a different band playing. I was disappointed, in spite of this band being good, because ML & TLBH are my favorite NOLA band, and Bob and I even saw them twice on our honeymoon. Meschiya has an absolutely incredible voice. We have one of their CDs, too.

Rainbow Brite Lydia

Hello there! Today I cleaned the apartment, did laundry, and then Bob and I headed over to his aunt's 60th surprise birthday party, about half an hour away or so. The party was held at an Italian restaurant, in a party room, and there were about twenty five people there. The food was buffet style, and it was good. We were there a few hours, and then ran an errand on the way home, and got back around 6:30. We're just staying in tonight, as we did last night. It's nice to have a quiet weekend, other than going to the party, after being away last week.
Tomorrow we'll just be staying in, too.
I can't believe Christmas is just over two months away! I LOVE Christmas, and especially decorating for it with antique Christmas decorations, oh, and wearing my Christmas-y outfits. As much as I get excited for it to come, the one thing I can't stand is that it means colder weather. So, I'm excited for Chrismas, but definitetly not for winter. I also love giving and receiving gifts, of course. This week I've been looking online for items I want for Christmas, so I can send my mom a list soon. She has already asked me for my list, and she always asks by October.
I also have been wanting to watch "White Christmas" and "It's a Wonderful Life" recently! Those are my two very favorite Christmas movies. I just looked up both on Netflix, and Netflix has "White Christmas"; I know what I'm watching tonight! I do have it on DVD too, but it's in a box somewhere at Bob's dad's house.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my Bernie Dexter Lydia paint palette print dress that I got a couple of years ago. I love a good themed outfit, and I almost always pair this dress with my palette brooch, and with a rainbow Bakelite stack. I feel pretty Rainbow Brite-ish in this outfit. I think this is the only Lydia dress Bernie ever released, and I'm not sure why.  I definitely can't paint, but I sure appreciate the talented people who do!

Tropical Mari

Hello there! I'm back from my vacation to New Orleans & Nashville. I got back on Saturday night. I wasn't sure if we'd be leaving on time on Sunday, 10/8, or even leaving on Sunday at all, because of the predicted New Orleans hurricane, but thankfully the hurricane bypassed New Orleans. I was so happy to still get to leave on time on Sunday, and happy for the people of NOLA, who definitely do not need to deal with another hurricane, ever!
I had a good time on my trip. I went to NOLA with my mom, and then we flew together last Thursday to Nashville to visit my sister, and my aunt & cousin who live in Texas flew in, as well. I don't get to see my aunt & cousin much, so it was really nice to get to see them, even though I only did for 24 hours! They got in Friday afternoon, and I left Saturday afternoon.
I'll post pictures from the trip soon and blog about what we did in those two southern cities.
One thing I will say now, NOLA was ridiculously humid while we were there, and next time I got there I think it won't be between June & October!
This week has been CRAZY busy at work, with me trying to catch up on all the work that piled up while I was gone. I'm pretty much caught up now, which makes me feel a lot better!
It wouldn't have been as crazy if I didn't have to cut checks on Monday to vendors, that takes about four hours, and I never had to do that the day I got back from vacation before.
But, the timing just worked out that way. Hopefully the timing doesn't work out that way again! The plus side to how crazy it's been is how fast the work days flew by this week!
I can't wait for the weekend though; I'm really looking forward to hanging out with Bob all weekend. I missed him a lot!! We hadn't been apart that long in over eight years, so it felt really weird.
Tonight I went to a board meeting at work, so I didn't get home until 7:00. I did have time between work and the meeting though, so I ran an errand and just read in my car.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my new Bernie Dexter Mari dress. I love this color combination of orange, yellow, green & blue, plus the pretty tropical floral and fish print. I didn't even notice there were fish in the print until after someone mentioned it online! I don't come across many retro inspired prints I like with orange in them, so it's exciting when I do, and orange is one of my favorite colors.

The Best Halloween Skirt

Hello there! Well, I'm a bit annoyed right now, because my parents and I were supposed to fly to New Orleans tomorrow at 1:00 p.m., but a hurricane may hit New Orleans, so our plans may get delayed. My mom prematurely cancelled our hotel in NOLA for tomorrow night, which I'm not happy about, because as of now our flight is still on time, which of course could change between now and then. I've been watching the weather, and it seems NOLA isn't going to get hit badly, that it's going to be much worse in Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and hopefully, if our flight does end up leaving tomorrow, my mom can re-book the hotel room, or book a different hotel.
Today I'm just staying home and doing cleaning, laundry, packing, working out, and relaxing. My mom's stopping by too, to discuss the trip/weather situation. I didn't do too much this week, just visited a friend on Thursday at her apartment.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my Pinup Girl Clothing Halloween skirt, which I so dearly love. It's big in the waist on me, and not the most flattering piece of clothing I own, but the print is AMAZING!! I get tons of compliments on this one. I don't own much PUG anymore, but I will never get rid of this piece. The only own Halloween-ish piece of clothing I own is my Bernie Dexter candy print Kelly dress, but I wear that one year round, ha. I only wear this skirt in the fall. I picked up these cheap plastic bangles when Bob and I were at the shore last weekend, and they ended up matching this skirt perfectly! I hadn't even been thinking about the skirt when I bought them.

Carnival Kitty

Hello there! It's been so chilly here the past couple of mornings! It was 40 degrees yesterday morning, and our heat wasn't working, and hasn't worked yet. Bob called the complex today to let them know; this has also happened the last two Octobers, where we had to call and complain, and then they sent someone out to fix it. They couldn't fix it today, because the temperature quickly rose, and the heat only works if it's 50 degrees or lower. So, they said to watch it tonight, and see if it works then.
This week has been super busy at work so far, which does make the day fly by, but can also be a bit stressful. It hasn't been that stressful yet, but I did have something frustrating come up at the end of the day today, so I stayed a little late, but I couldn't figure it out before I left. I'll be working on it again first thing in the morning, and luckily my co-worker is going to help me, as she has done before with this issue. There's some things I need to get done this week at work, before I go away on Sunday(!), so that does add a little pressure.
I can't believe I'm going away in 5 days! I can't wait to traipse the streets of the French Quarter with my mom, doing lots of shopping and eating yummy things, especially Po-boys. We're also going to go to the Botanical Gardens there, and I've never been there before.
My mom is very into flowers, so I figured it was a good idea for something for us to do.
In the pictures below I'm wearing my very first Vivien of Holloway purchase, which I received today! I had thought about ordering from the company for a couple of years, and I finally did it. Bob paid for part of the dress as a birthday present to me. Shirt dresses are my very favorite dress style to wear, and I love this one! The style is called Kitty. I love the length, the pockets, the buttons, the print, and the background shade of red, which is my favorite shade of red. The print is of a fair of carnival. The dress is also comfortable, and will be perfect to wear to work or outside of work. It fits my chest well; there's not even button gaping, but it is really big on my waist, so I just added the belt to hide that.
